The 2023 DBIA-SW Regional Conference was an incredible success, bringing together industry professionals, experts, and thought leaders to discuss the latest trends, best practices, and innovations in design-build. With the theme of "Best Practices, Best Value," the conference provided a platform for attendees to network, learn, and engage. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this event such a success!
Keynote Speakers and Sessions
The conference featured a stellar lineup of keynote speakers and sessions, covering a wide range of topics related to design-build. Highlights included:
A keynote address from David Cooke, City Manager with the City of Fort Worth, who spoke about the importance of public infrastructure as a driver of growth and key considerations to work effectively with municipalities like the City of Fort Worth.
An interactive owner’s panel on "Design-Build Best Practices in Action” that gave the owner’s perspective on design-build legislation and its role in mitigating project risks with David Cooke, Jim Kehoe of VanTrust Real Estate, Ed Motley of the Upper Trinity Regional Water District, Greg Snider of the Texas Department of Transportation, and moderated by David Kinchen of Burns & McDonnell.
A keynote featuring DBIA Executive Director Lisa Washington on what’s next in the design-build industry.
We had over 50 speakers come to the conference and speak at 20 different sessions focusing on everything from "Preconstruction Strategies for Uncertain Economic Times" to "Austin's High-Capacity Transit Expansion: Implementing Austin Light Rail Project."
Networking Opportunities
The conference provided ample opportunities for attendees to network and connect with each other. There were several receptions, dinners, and social events throughout the conference, including a welcome reception, a “sky high” mixer at iFly indoor skydiving, a tour of the DART Silverline, and some industry-specific meet-ups!
