Manjiri Akalkotkar, AIA

Vice President of Program Delivery

VIA Metropolitan Transit

Manjiri Akalkotkar is the Vice President of Program Delivery for VIA Metropolitan Transit in San Antonio, Texas. In this role, she is responsible for VIA's Strategic Planning and Special Projects departments.


Manjiri leads VIA’s Advance Rapid Transit (ART) project planning and implementation under its voter-approved Keep San Antonio Moving plan for the agency. Manjiri and her team also led the design and implementation of VIA’s innovative, on-demand mobility service, VIA Link. In her previous role, she oversaw the agency’s Capital Programs, Engineering, Real Estate, Service Planning, and Scheduling departments.


In addition to her roles at VIA Metropolitan Transit, Manjiri is also part-time faculty at The University of Texas at San Antonio.


From 2009 to 2014, Manjiri was an Associate Professor at the Center of Excellence in Urban Transport, CEPT University, India. Her responsibilities included teaching, research, and development in the field of Urban Transportation Planning and Management. During that time, She was a consultant for Ahmedabad Janmarg Bus Rapid Transit (BRTS) project.


Manjiri currently serves as Chair of the Transportation Research Board’s Steering Committee on Transportation in the Developing World and is a board member of the American Public Transportation Foundation.


Manjiri graduated from Leadership San Antonio Class 46 (2020) and was a San Antonio Business Journal “40 under 40” honoree in 2006.


Manjiri has worked on numerous architecture and transit projects and taught courses related to architecture and planning in the United States and India over the past 30 years. She earned a Master of Science in Architectural Studies from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Architecture from Poona University, India.
